General Questions about Home Doctor Service

How does the home doctor service system work?
After a call has been made, information about the situation has been given to our medical triage team who acts as our call agents.  They will relay the information to our on-call doctors and they will immediately attend to your situation. The doctor may reach you approximately 2-3 hours after the call and booking confirmation, depending on the traffic situation and other factors that may affect the doctor’s travel time. Once diagnosed, the doctor may give you initial doses of needed medications, and offer additional medical advice. A medical summary of the consultation will be sent to your family doctor’s office so that he will be kept in the loop about your situation the next time your visit.
Do you have a schedule? What time are you available?
Anytime your GP’s clinic is closed or when your family doctor is unavailable, Home Doctor’s Melbourne is here to help! Specifically, our home doctor service is available on weekdays starting at 6 PM, on Saturdays starting at 12 noon, and anytime on Sundays and public holidays.
I am not a Medicare member. Can I still avail home doctor service?
Yes, but a fee will have to be paid for your home consultations. The cost will depend on the length of the check-up and the severity of the condition, or if the consultation would need additional procedures to be performed.
What information would I need to have to avail for the home doctor service?
When calling the Home Doctors Melbourne number, you have to prepare the patient’s basic information (complete name, birthdate, address), their Medicare information/card if a member, a brief description of the medical condition, and the family doctor’s information. These basic patient data will enable the triage team to assess and prioritize the calls and allow the doctors to respond to the most important medical situations first. Patient’s situation will then be more efficiently attended based on their condition.
Can I get an after-hours doctor for a follow-up consultation?
Routine medical treatments, the ones your general practitioner or family doctor provides you will not be provided by the home doctors in Melbourne. This means that our practice will not be responsible to follow up on your immunization schedules, chronic disease treatment and management, prescription refills, and other medical referrals. These services should all be under your GP.
Will my GP know about the results of my home doctor service?
After an after-hours doctor assessed you and catered to your medical needs, a medical report or summary will be furnished and will be sent to your GP’s office the next working day. This will allow a continuous level of care to be made available to you. This will be essential the next time you see your GP and a follow up on your condition is needed.
Can I just forget my GP and rely on the home doctor service?
Unfortunately, this is a bad connotation many patients get after availing of the home doctor service. They begin to think that since they can always request for an after-hours doctor in the comfort of their home, they would just stick to their services instead of seeing their own GP.  Home doctor service should not be considered as an alternative or a replacement for your family doctor’s services. Your family doctor has been treating you for several years and they know your medical history and other important medical information you may have. The best and most reliable person who can manage your and your family’s health would have to be your GP.
What if I’m not satisfied with the care the home doctor service provided?
There are a few times where patients may not be satisfied with the medical attention they have received. Home Doctors Melbourne has provided a system where feedback of the clients will be provided regarding their experience during the home doctor service. This would help us improve our services and ensure client satisfaction at its best.
